Sloan Valve was founded by William Elvis Sloan (1867-1961) who began his career as a pipefitter but went on to invent (among several other inventions and patents) the Royal Flushometer, a mechanism can be seen the world over today wherever people go. Sloan Valve calls 4348 W Lake home for the next 65 Years.
Sloan Valve moved out in 1971 and migrated out to the suburbs. Like many industrial buildings on the west side, the building fell into disrepair and exchanged ownership several times.
Current ownership bought the building in 2008 and planned for a full redevelopment and rebranding.
Upon completion of construction, the first tenant moved in. SV Worklofts is now home to many of Chicago's creators, makers, and entrepreneurs.
